"Buhari's victory can't save you from drowning " Akala tells Ajimobi.
Former governor Adebayo Alao-Akala of Oyo State has chided Governor Abiola Ajimobi for using the name of the president-elect, General Muhammadu Buhari of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for his re-election campaign, saying that no amount of political gimmicks will save the governor from drowning.
The president-elected is billed for Ibadan on Wednesday purportedly to drum support for the APC gubernatorial candidate and incumbent, Senator Abiola Ajimobi ahead Saturday’s election.
According to a statement by the Labour Party governorship candidate’s director of public affairs, Oludare Ogunlana, it stated that General Buhari and Governor Ajimobi are two separate entities like “light and darkness” which can never work together. Alao-Akala said “using Buhari’s name rather than his (Ajimobi) achievement is the greatest undoing a sinking governor can do to win at all cost”.
“Buhari neither award contract at questionable amount nor neglected meritocracy for mediocrity. The APC administration is anti-masses as it has inflicted pains on the people as against its campaign promises in 2011”.
He said that Buhari won last Saturday’s election because of his pedigree as an incorruptible person while “Ajimobi is the most corrupt in the history of the State. He has over 120 landed properties in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital while Buhari is the only former head of States without a house in Abuja; the only former leader without an oil blocs. How then does Ajimobi think using Buhari’s name to campaign will guarantee him victory.”
He continued: “To save Ajimobi from the imminent defeat in Saturday’s election, plans have been concluded to bring General Muhammadu Buhari to Ibadan on Wednesday under the guise of ‘Thank you tour’ to shore up support for the drowning anti-masses governor but we believe that just like nothing was able to stop Buhari’s victory last week, Governor Abiola Ajimobi is on his way out of the government house. What he needs to do at this point in time is to start packing his load and prepare his hand-over note.”
He added that Otunba Alao-Akala will liaise with the new president immediately he is declared governor adding that people should nurse no fear that Oyo State will starve if it is in opposition to the government at the Centre.
He therefore advised the people of the State not to be cajoled into believing the lies marketed by the APC, saying that Alao-Akala will re-enact the good works he did when in the saddle as governor.
