Buhari’s daughters paid their way to the US, says Shehu

Contrary to insinuations that the daughters of President Muhammadu Buhari seen at the United Nations General Assembly were sponsored on the trip by the government, the Nigerian public have been urged to disregard such.

Senior Special Assistant to the president on media and publicity, Garba Shehu, says the government did not sponsor the US trip of the daughters of President Buhari.

Shehu said this on Twitter while responding to a question posed by a user, Adetutu Balogun.

Balogun had sought to know if the government sponsored the trip, as well as the purpose of their attendance at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).

Dear @GarShehu Can you tell us, Who paid for @MBuhari‘s children to attend #UNGA and what is the purpose of their attendance? pic.twitter.com/7Ard7TK6Jx

And Shehu responded by saying:

None of President @MBuhari‘s children now with the family in New York traveled on government tickets. https://t.co/1XHbrO0hIF

Some Nigerians, particularly on social media, expressed displeasure after seeing pictures of Halima and Zahra seated next to their mother at a session of UNGA.
