Buhari visits Plateau, to launch Agency’s five-year plan to end conflict

The long awaited visit of President Mohammedu Buhari to the city of Jos, the Plateau State capital, will finally hold sway on the 28 of February 2018.
The long awaited visit postponed twice by the Presidency, will launch a document tagged the ‘Five-Year Strategic Plan To End Conflict’ put together by the Plateau State Peace Building Agency, (PPBA).
Speaking on the visit, the Director General, PPBA, Mr. Joseph Lengmang, said, “as an agency we are honored that the President will be launching our five years strategic plan document to end conflict: this is historic because, it is the first of its kind in the country”, he said.
Recall that the Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, had recently commended the Plateau State Government for bringing on board the PPBA, which is aimed at addressing conflicts, with emphasis on Berom community and the Fulani face off.
Osinbajo who spoke at the just concluded National Summit On Security held in Abuja, said, “we are mindful of the Peace-Building efforts of some State Governments in Plateau State, for example, the Government constituted a Peace and Reconciliation Committee to work with the Berom and Fulani communities which had been at loggerheads.
Our correspondent however reports that the PPBA some time in December 2017,
unveiled a five-year plan for a definitive end to incessant breakdown of law and order among its residents.
The Agency established by the State Governor, Simon Bako Lalong, on 2nd February 2016, was aimed at coordinating activities of both state and non-state actors on peace building initiatives.
According to the DG in an interview he granted to our correspondent, said, “the plan includes the setting up of an international framework for tackling the root causes of violent conflicts”.
Lengmang said the effort of the plan focuses on engaging both state and non state actors collaborating to resolve old conflicts and prevent new ones.
He said that being non partisan, non religious, non ethnic and a hub for coordinating conflict prevention, the agency is determined to be fair, just and respect for everyone with a view to building a new Plateau.
