Buhari okays 23 new appointments, seeks Senate’s confirmation of 26 nominees

President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the appointment of Chief Executive Officers (CEOs) of agencies in the Federal Ministries of Health, Information and Culture, Education, Power, Works, and Housing, and Resident Electoral Commissioners in the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

This development was contained in a statement issued by Mr Lawrence Ojabo, the director press in the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Mr Boss Mustapha.

The SGF urged them to revive the agencies in the delivery on their mandates through a renewed commitment to transparency, accountability, and service delivery with integrity.

The appointments include Dr. Abdulkareem Jika Yusuf as the medical director Federal Neuropsychiatric Hospital, Kaduna, Kaduna State on the initial term of four years with effect from 8th April 2018; Dr. Abubakar Musa as the Medical Director, Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Nguru, Yobe State;

Dr. AbdullahiIbrahim was appointed as the medical director, FMC, Azare, Bauchi State; Dr. Nasir Ibrahim Umar is the medical director National Obstetric Fistula Centre Bauchi State; Dr. Iliasu Adeagbo Ahmed was made the medical director, FMC, Owo, Ondo State and Dr. Aliyu Muhammad El-ladan is the medical director national obstetric fistula centre,Katsina, Katsina state.

In the Federal Ministry of Information and Culture Dr. (Mrs) Stella Morounmubo Oyedepo was appointed as theGeneral-Manager, Lagos State National Theatre while the Federal Ministry of Education had Dr. Baba DavidDanjuma as the rector, Federal Poyltechnic, Idah, Kogi State while Dr. Usman M. Kallamu was appointed as the rector Federal Polytechnic, Damaturu , Yobe State

Others are (TPL) Jimah Momodu Sanusi is the rector Federal Polytechnic, Auchi, Edo State, Dr. Dayo HephzibahOladebeye is the rector, Federal Polytechnic, term of four years with effect from 23rd february 2018, Arch SanusiGumau is the rector Federal polytechnic, Bauchi, Bauchi State,

Prof. Tomunomi M. Abbey as the rector Federal Polytechnic, Oil & Gas Bonny, Rivers State while Engr. Omokungbe Obafemi Omoseni is the rector, Yaba College of Technology, Lagos and Proff. Faruk Rashid Haruna was appointed as the provost Federal college of Education,Kontagora, Niger State.

Meanwhile, under the Ministry of Power, Works and Housing, Usman Gur Mohammed is appointed as the Managing – Director, Transmission Company of Nigeria, (TCN) while the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has Dr. Emmanuel Alex Hart as the Resident Electoral Commissioner; Mohammed Magaji Ibrahim was appointed the Resident Electoral Commissioner while Dr Cyril Omorogbe is the Resident Electoral Commissioner and Dr Uthman Abdulrahman Ajidaba is the Resident Electoral Commissioner.

Others included Mr. Segun Agbaje as the resident electoral commissioner, Baba Abba Yusuf,the resident electoral commissioner and Yahaya Bello is the resident electoral commissioner.

The statement added that the Resident Electoral Commissioners will be sworn in by the INEC Chairman at INEC Headquarters on Tuesday, 17th April, 2018 at 10.00a.m

Meanwhile, President Muhammad Buhari has requested the Senate to confirm his nomination of 23 persons into the board of the National Population Commission (NPC), 2 new non- legal practitioners as members of the Federal Judicial Service Commission (FJSC) and one National Commissioner for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The President’s letters seeking parliamentary approval for these nominations were read at plenary on Tuesday by the Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki.

In a letter dated March 27, 2018, President Buhari had in accordance with the provisions of Section 154(1) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended) forwarded to the Senate for confirmation, names of 23 nominees representing their respective states at the National Population Commission.

The nominees for the NPC board are; Nwanne Johnny Nwabuisi (Abia), Dr. Clifford T.O.Zirra (Adamawa), Mr. Chidi Christopher Ezeoje (Anambra), Barr. Issa Audu Buratai (Borno), Navy Captain Charles Iyam Ogwa (rtd) (Cross River).
