Samuel Essah Ogenyi, popularly known as Samvail, maybe a fast-rising Nigerian singer, songwriter, and performing artiste, but is not one to mince words when occasion demands that he spills his guts on sensitive matters such as the federal government’s ban on the social media platform, Twitter.

In a recent interview, the Dubai-based music-maker, who rose to fame after his debut single, ‘Oluwa Said Ok’, produced by Kue Bounce in 2016, condemned the federal government’s sudden ban of the social media platform, which has been serving as a source of livelihood for many youths in Nigeria, including fast rising musicians such as himself.

Being one of the most influential artists from Africa in the UAE and because he sees himself as a Nigerian force to be reckoned with in Dubai, he felt the need to air his opinion on the matter which has generated series of mixed reactions since the ban was pronounced by the federal government.

He said; “Twitter ban should be lifted in Nigeria. Twitter is the people’s voice. Nigeria is a democratic country and freedom of speech shouldn’t be cut off from its citizens. Twitter is a means where rising acts come to showcase their talents for the world to see.”

He added; “Lots of rising acts who are super stars today got notice/recognition from Twitter and went into limelight. The government should reconsider and lift the ban of Twitter.”

Speaking further, he lamented how the sudden ban has impacted negatively on the Nigerian entertainment industry, noting that it has crippled a lot in the industry.

“It has really affected the entertainment industry in Nigeria because Twitter is a means of promoting yourself as an artist; a means where entertainers meet and share ideas, a means of sending inspirational and motivational messages and communicating with your fans, etc. The Twitter ban needs to be lifted in Nigeria”, he concluded.
