Buhari To Meet South East Traders In Onitsha Town Hall Meeting Today
Candidate of All Progressives Congress (APC) in the March 28, Presidential Election, General Mohammadu Buhari (Rtd) will today begin the second lap of his South East meet the people tour which will take him to Anambra and Imo states on the first day.
Buhari is expected to meet the state’s commercial city and the organized private sector in a town hall meeting at Sharon House in Onitsha.
According to the chairman, APC Presidential campaign council for Anambra state Barr. Chima Okafor who spoke to reporters in Awka yesterday, the town hall meeting would address some critical policy issues regarding business and industry in the South East and its strategic importance to Nigeria.
The event he said would showcase Buhari’s policy thrust with regards to business and industry, sectors where the Igbo feature prominently.
“For the purpose of educating our people, from the five South East states, on the economic agenda of General Muhamadu Buhari, we have planned this event in the commercial Town of Onitsha in order to ensure that our candidate bares his mind on how he intends to restore the manufacturing capacity and the industrial glory of the South East region of Nigeria.
“We want the businessmen and industrialists who have been bearing the brunt of poor infrastructure, insecurity, poor micro and macroeconomic policies and finally the rapid drop of the value of the Naira as against the Dollar, to come and engage General Buhari and see how his policies will transform the South East region into the tiger of Africa.
‘The South East used to be the industrial engine of the nation, unfortunately past governments have not been able to implement policies that will rejuvenate the area and tap into the entrepreneurial spirit of the people, this I believe the Buhari administration will help achieve. It is the essence of the programme”, he said.
In a similar briefing in Awka, the former Governor of Anambra state, Dr. Chinwoke Mbadinuju said he had formally withdrawn his membership of People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in his Umuaku-Uli ward of Ihiala council area of the state and conversely registered with the rival APC.
He described his action as painful but necessary because according to him the PDP is bereft of internal and participatory democracy and controlled by questionable characters who twist the party according to their whims and caprices.
Mbadinuju who is now giving his support to the candidacy of Buhari, in the March 28, Presidential election, and other APC candidates in Anambra state said that the PDP has become repulsive, and soaked in injustice while perfecting the act of use and dump.
“In PDP, ethics and values were thrown to the dogs. PDP has become an unjust and unfair political party with no truth in its mouth, no compassion in its heart, no sincerity in its purpose and its actions are always intrinsically self-serving and deceitful. Most honest members became disillusioned and disappointed with the turn of events”, he said.
The APC, he said, is a party to belong and that the broom will continue to sweep clean.
