Buhari means well for future generation – Presidency

The Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to the President on Media and Publicity, Alhaji Garba Shehu has pleaded with Nigerians to be calm and continue to exercise patience with the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration, describing him as a “marathon runner not a sprinter” who means well for the future generation.

Garba Shehu, who spoke during an interactive session with Nigerian students and youths organised by the Citizen Support for Good Governance in Nigeria (CSGGN) in Abuja at the weekend urged Nigerians to appreciate the humongous achievements President Buhari has recorded in the area of security.

The SSA on media argued that the Boko Haram insurgents would have taken over the seat of power Aso Rock and the entire country had the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) under former President Goodluck Jonathan continued in office.

“Your support for Muhammadu Buhari I assure you will not be in vain. If you look at him, he has achieved everything one desires to achieve; he chose the military career and rose to become an army General and became a military Head of State.

“If the ambition of one is to rule his country, he has achieved that; President Buhari fought three times and won on the fourth count with the firm belief that he has something to offer the future generation of this country. In essence, what I am saying is that he doesn’t have personal wish for fortune or power to acquire material wealth, no, that is not Buhari.

“He wants a secured future that is stable for the younger generations that are coming up, you. This is why in his message he maintained three key issues, fighting Corruption, insurgency and revamping the economy which he has reported over and over; he says this country cannot make any progress without security.”

He pointed to the recovery of huge sums of money from the former Managing Director of the NNPC in Kaduna as a pointer to the efforts of the administration on the policy of whistle blowing.

“I was at an event and they said the man’s aunt (Andrew Yakubu) said she wanted food, he said there was no money. Look at the huge amount of money he parked in a neighborhood that had no electricity, no road, no water, in the same compound, you had low level working Nigerians. They didn’t know they resided in a compound where billions of Naira was kept from stolen funds.”

“You can see that exploration and exportation of oil is growing, gas is coming back and power is getting better. So all we require of you is to be patient, President Buhari is a long distance runner, he is not looking for short term gain that people will just clap for him and in a while, those advantages will disappear.

“He wants to build a future of prosperity, a future that will be everlasting. Something that will stay for generation upon generation and I assure that this is a beginning of the good things to come,” he said.

The CSGGN National convener, Moses Abdullahi, told the gathering that Nigerian youths are at the receiving end of various looting that has taken place in the past hence the need to support the present government of President Buhari to fight corruption to a standstill.
