Buhari approves N110 million to overhaul generator, N8 billion to rehabilitate secretariat

The FCT minister stated that the secretariat will be rehabilitated for N8.1 billion and a generator would be overhauled for N110 million.

The Buhari administration claims it will spend N82 billion to renovate the Abuja Federal Secretariat and other projects in the Federal Capital Territory.

The government set aside N131.4 million from the N82 billion for an “analysis of consultancy provision” for the Abuja Central Business District’s Independence and Constitution Avenue Road project.

The N82 billion was authorised by the Federal Executive Council on Wednesday.

Muhammed Bello, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, made the announcement while briefing State House correspondents at the end of a council meeting in Abuja presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari.

The FCT minister stated that the secretariat will be rehabilitated for N8.1 billion and a generator would be overhauled for N110 million.

“I delivered six memos, all of which are related to infrastructure and infrastructure programs.

He said, “The first is for the revision of the contracts for the reconstruction and extension of the outer Southern Expressway to Ring Road I in the Federal Capital City.”

“That contract was accepted at a varied contract sum of N15,125,122,967,” he explained further. This contract is scheduled to be concluded in less than 24 months.

“The second project, which was also accepted, is for the contract’s revised approximate cost for the building of a 15-kilometer left-hand service carriageway on the outer surface of the outer Southern Expressway stage II.”

He went on to say that the “augmentation of this specific project” would cost N11,476,476,424,350.

“The third memo is for the rehabilitation of phase I of the Federal Secretariat, which includes electro-mechanical systems, water system, and other general rehabilitation,” he continued.

“This is a secretariat that was founded in 1993, which is quite a long time ago, so we are doing a major reconstruction of it for a total amount of N8,110,665,676.76, with a 24-month completion period.”

The minister stated that the Abuja Environmental Protection Board would spend N110 million on a “complete upgrade” of a 1500 KVA generating facility.

Mr Bello revealed that the contract amount for the extension of the inner Southern Expressway has been increased to N47.6 billion, with N131.4 million of the N82 billion being used to evaluate consultancy provision for the Independence and Constitution Avenue Road project in Abuja’s Central Business District.
