BUA Cement Signs $240m Deal with CBMI to Build 3m-Ton Sokoto Line 6
BUA Cement Plc has signed a landmark agreement with CBMI to construct a new 3-million-ton-per-annum cement line in Sokoto, in a deal valued at US$240 million.
The manufacturers of BUA Portland Limestone Cement and Sokoto Portland Limestone Cement explained that the project, which includes a power plant and other key facilities, is expected to boost BUA Cement’s total annual production capacity to 20 million tons once completed, strengthening supply across Nigeria and the wider region.
This agreement extends BUA’s 15-year partnership with CBMI, which has already delivered cement production lines totalling 14 million tons at BUA’s Obu (Edo) and Sokoto plants.
According to the manufacturers of BUA Cements, the new Sokoto Line 6 is strategically positioned as the only cement plant in Nigeria’s North-West, providing access to several landlocked neighbouring countries and enhancing regional trade.
“The project will be powered by clean energy from its 700-ton-per-day mini LNG plant in Kogi, scheduled for completion later this year. The LNG facility will supply reliable energy to the new Sokoto line and existing operations, improving efficiency, reducing emissions, and supporting sustainable industrial growth.”
BUA Cement executives described the investment as timely, citing Nigeria’s ongoing economic reforms that have eased factory establishment and stimulated demand for infrastructure projects.
“This expansion reflects our commitment to meeting Nigeria’s growing infrastructure needs, creating jobs, and supporting critical development,” BUA Cement stated.
The Sokoto Line 6 project is targeted for completion within 20 months, positioning BUA Cement to consolidate its leadership in the Nigerian cement industry and expand its footprint across West Africa.
Analysts say the expansion underscores the company’s aggressive growth strategy and highlights the broader opportunities in Nigeria’s construction and infrastructure sectors, where demand for cement continues to rise.
