Breakthrough: Dangote agrees to unionisation of refinery workers, MOU underway

There are strong indications that the Dangote Group has finally agreed to allow employees of its refinery and petrochemical plants to join the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG).

Reliable sources confirmed that a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) is currently being drafted between the parties to formalize the agreement. The document, once completed, will outline the terms of unionisation and guarantee workers the right to freely associate under NUPENG.

The sources further revealed that both parties are considering a two-week window for the full implementation of the MOU, a move seen as a major breakthrough in the protracted standoff between labour unions and Dangote Refinery management.

The meeting, which was convened at the instance of the Minister of Labour, had delegation from both the Dangote Group and NUPENG. The meeting was earlier scheduled for 10 am, but only started around 5 pm, due to some unavoidable hitches.
