The North West Zone has taken a significant step towards addressing its developmental and security challenges as Kaduna Stat Governor, Uba Sani declared open the Policymakers Technical Session on the North West Peace and Security Development Framework.
The Kaduna meeting aims to present and collectively review the report of the Inaugural North West Peace and Security Summit and outline considerations for developing a roadmap to tackle the region’s challenges.
Governor Sani emphasized the need for synergy and a collaborative approach to promote regional stability, economic prosperity, and social advancement. He stressed that the framework seeks to address the root causes of conflict and insecurity confronting the region.
To achieve this, Uba Sani proposed a multidimensional approach to security management, including the establishment of a North West Theater Command, extension of the Multinational Joint Task Force to cover international borders, and implementation of socioeconomic interventions.
Other strategies proposed include the formation of Standing Security Committees, development and implementation of viable non-kinetic programs on deradicalisation, rehabilitation, and transitional justice, and launching a massive campaign for ethical reorientation.
The governor also emphasized the need to unify the people and mobilize them to collectively tackle the myriad developmental and security challenges facing the zone. He called for amplifying support to security forces, enhancing localized intelligence systems, stimulating investment, developing agriculture and agri-business, expanding rural infrastructure, broadening access to education and healthcare, and nurturing engagement and promoting a sense of inclusion among all citizens.
The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) has been commended for taking practical steps to fulfill the commitment made by the North Westk Governors’ Forum and the UNDP at the Inaugural North West Peace and Security Summit in Katsina.
The Policymakers Technical Session is a significant step towards charting a path to the restoration of peace and security in the North West Zone.
With the collective efforts of the region’s stakeholders, the zone can overcome its developmental and security challenges and achieve prosperity and stability.
