Breaking News: Court Dismisses Move to Stop Election
The Federal High court sitting in Abuja has dismissed a suit seeking to restrain the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, from using the Smart Card Reader Machines for the presidential election holding Saturday, March 28.
In a ruling this afternoon, the presiding Judge, Justice Ademola Adeniyi turned down the request for an interim order of injunction stopping INEC from employing the technology for the presidential poll.
The court has however summoned both INEC and the Attorney General of the Federation, Mohammed Bello Adoke, SAN, to come before the court on April 24 to address the legality of the use of the card readers for a general election.
Though the court turned down the application filed by a Senatorial candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Ogun state, Mr. Walihu Taiwo, it however emphasized that if it eventually ascertains that the use of the card readers were illegal and unconstitutional, it will not hesitate to annul the outcome of the general election.
