Blackout as national grid collapses again

Nigeria have once again been plunged into darkness following another collapse of the national grid.

An update via the official X handle of Nigeria’s National Grid revealed that the system failure occurred at about 11:54 a.m. on Wednesday, September 10, 2025.

According to the post, only IbadanDisco had 20MW, while the other Discos were on 0MW.

Confirming the development, the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) said in a post on X that the “power outage currently being experienced is due to a loss of supply from the national grid.”

“Rest assured, we are working closely with the relevant shareholders to ensure power is restored once the grid is stabilized. Thank you for your patience and understanding,” it said.

The national grid has suffered repeated collapses in the past year, triggering widespread blackouts.

On February 12, several parts of the country were without electricity after another system collapse, which electricity distribution companies also confirmed.
