BPP, ICAN Sign MoU to Boost Transparency in Public Procurement

The Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP) and the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) on Monday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to promote transparency, accountability and ethical practices in public procurement.

The agreement is aimed at strengthening public financial management and ensuring value for money in government spending.

The Director-General of BPP, Dr Adebowale Adedokun, described the collaboration as a milestone in Nigeria’s procurement reform efforts.

According to him, public procurement serves as the fulcrum of professionalism, bringing various professional bodies into an ecosystem that works for national development.

Adedokun said the MoU would empower the bureau to report errant accountants to ICAN for disciplinary action, noting that the measure would enhance accountability among professionals involved in procurement processes.

In his remarks, ICAN President, Haruna Yahaya, pledged the institute’s commitment to supporting the bureau in achieving its mandate.

Yahaya identified four key focus areas of the partnership as value for money, strict discipline, national savings and capacity development.

He expressed confidence that the collaboration would deliver significant benefits to the country. The MoU signing ceremony was attended by representatives of both organisations.
