Boniface Returns to Light Training After Knee Surgery
Nigerian forward Victor Boniface has resumed light training following several months out with a knee injury.
The 25-year-old shared a video of himself performing leg exercises on his official X account on Tuesday, writing, “Help me post this one too, I dey training,” drawing positive reactions from fans.
Boniface underwent surgery in January after consultations in Austria. His club, Werder Bremen, confirmed at the time that the striker would be sidelined for months after deciding to proceed with the operation.
“Forward Victor Boniface will be unavailable to Werder Bremen for the coming months after deciding to undergo surgery on his injured knee.
“He is scheduled to have the operation on Saturday, 10 January, in Innsbruck, where he will be treated by knee specialist Prof. Dr Christian Fink. The decision follows a detailed examination carried out,” the club said.
Boniface has faced multiple injury setbacks since November 2024, including missing the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in the Ivory Coast after sustaining a major abductor injury on the eve of the tournament.
He was also ruled out of Bremen’s first game of 2026 against Borussia Dortmund due to complications in his rehabilitation.
Reflecting on his recovery journey, the striker admitted it had been a difficult period, revealing in previous social media posts that he had been “putting on a fake smile for over a year now,” while expressing gratitude to God.
Before the injury setbacks, Boniface had made an impressive start to the season, registering eight goals and one assist in 15 appearances.
