Bomadi community commends Amnesty boss on vocational centre

Bomadi community in Bomadi local government area of Delta state has applauded the grassroots development efforts of the Special Adviser to the President on Niger Delta and Coordinator of the Presidential Amnesty Programme, Brig-Gen. Paul Boroh (rtd) on the establishment of a power vocational training center in the community within his short period in office.

Speaking to newsmen at the Presidential Amnesty Power Training center in Bomadi local government area of Delta, a former chairman of the community, Mr. Stanley Patrick, commended Boroh for his maturity, foresight and ingenuity in his approach to grassroots’ development projects.

He said, “Boroh’s interest is focused on ensuring that capacities of ex-militants and youths in rural communities in the Niger Delta region are developed through visible infrastructure such as the vocational training center located in Bomadi community.”

According to the former youth president who also doubles as the community relations officer of the power vocational training centre project, Boroh also awarded an access road project, being the first internal road project in the community, saying that though the power vocational training centre project was conceived by the previous administration, the project was stalled after the land acquisition processes.

He further recalled that the Amnesty boss, on assumption of office never abandoned the project because of its relevance to the youths of the Niger Delta region in the area of capacity building and continued the project by awarding the contract in addition to an access road project that leads to the vocational training centre.

The community relations officer noted that “this job has helped the community and it has brought peace to the area. Because of the fear of President Muhammadu Buhari, every contractor is t seriously working, unlike the previous administration where things were done with impunity.

He said the two ongoing projects from the Presidential Amnesty office in the community have created several jobs for the youths, as the labour is provided by the community,

with local people supplying sand, granites among other needs at the project site, reiterating that Gen. Boroh is the best person for the position because of his unrelenting passion for the development of the Niger Delta region, with a view to sustaining peace and stability in the area.

Representative of Cafmeg Nigeria Ltd, (the contracting firm) Engr. Larry Akin, explained that the project which was meant to train youths in electrical, electronics and power related vocations, started Jan. 2016.

According Engr. Akin, the main training centre has eighty beds capacity hostel, 8 1bedroom and 1 2bedroom apartments for students and staff accommodation,a cafeteria, common room, utility building, water treatment plant building, six lecture halls, power house, sick bay, with overhead tank, in addition to a 1.34km access road, leading to the project site under construction.

While the extension of the main training centre has six lecture halls, overhead tank, storage, warehouse, with internal roads.

Though he lamented that the raft foundation only for all the buildings at the centre took 35 percent of the total cost of the project due to the terrain, level of work at the main training centre has reached 97%, while that the extension is 75% complete.

On his part, the Vice Chairman of Bomadi community, Mr. Raphael Demeateide, who commended Gen. Boroh for not abandoning the project on assumption of office, said the project has provided several jobs for the youths through the supply of labour, pointing out that the project, when commissioned, will help the community and surrounding villages in meaningfully engaging the youths.

He added that the contractor has never stopped work from the day he mobilized to site and that the youths have so much regard for him and his team, saying that the community is peaceful as the youths are now seriously engaged at the project site on a daily basis.
