Boko Haram fuel suppliers nabbed in Borno – Military

By Kingsley Chukwuka

The Nigerian Military has busted the filling station supplying fuel to Boko Haram in Borno State.

The military has been closing up on suppliers of various items to the terror groups, placing Hadiza and Sadiq Filling Station on its watch list as revealed by security intelligence.

The illegal filling station based in Maiduguri, was caught in the illicit business when it was fueling over 500 jerrycans belonging to the sect, an act described by the military as a deliberate and treacherous attempt to empower enemies of the State.

“We have been monitoring the activities of several unscrupulous fuel dealers”, a statement from the Acting Director Army Public Relations, Lieutenant Colonel Apolonia Anele said.

These individuals, according to the statement, modified vehicle tanks—especially in Golf cars—to transport large quantities of fuel, which were later transferred into jerrycans and moved into terrorist-held territories.

“But this time, the operation was intercepted. Troops stormed the scene and arrested several suspects red-handed.

“During preliminary interrogation, the suspects confessed to transporting the fuel toward the Pulka area and parts of Cameroon, which are known to harbor members of the Boko Haram faction led by Ali Ngulde.

“However, they claimed ignorance about the specific identities of the recipients, saying people from various destinations collected the fuel”.

Security officials condemned what they described as a disturbing and treasonous network of collaborators hiding under the guise of legitimate business to support terrorist activities.

“These are not businessmen, they are economic saboteurs and enemies of the Nigerian state. Their actions cost lives every day,” the statement added.

The military has vowed to strengthen surveillance over fuel distribution networks and ensure that all those involved are brought to justice.
