Bode George Urges Tinubu to Restrain Wike, Declares Minister Expelled from PDP
Chief Olabode George, former Deputy National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has called on President Bola Tinubu to restrain the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, before his conduct causes irreparable damage to the current administration.
In a sharp statement issued on Tuesday, February 24, 2026, George declared that Wike is no longer a member of the PDP, having been officially expelled during the party’s convention in Ibadan last November alongside several other associates.
The Atona Oodua of Yorubaland criticized the Minister for allegedly using federal security agents to intimidate Nigerians while claiming to represent a faction of the opposition.
George described Wike’s behavior during the recent Saturday elections in Abuja as a “complete embarrassment,” citing viral footage of the Minister boasting to supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) that they should leave the post-voting process to him.
He argued that such “power-drunk” behavior is only possible with the President’s backing and warned Tinubu that he, not Wike, would be held accountable by history for any resulting instability.
Drawing a parallel to the First Republic, George reminded the President that while history often forgets the specific actors used to cause chaos, it never forgets the leaders like Prime Minister Abubakar Tafawa-Balewa who provided them cover.
He cautioned that if Nigeria were to descend into crisis, the repercussions would be felt across Africa, noting that “when the shit hits the fan,” the President will have to carry the consequences alone.
George further condemned reported incidents of ballot box snatching and the use of tear gas by security agents at polling booths.
He emphasized that as a veteran of both the military and civil democracy since 1999, he recognizes the danger of undermining the will of the people.
He concluded by asserting that Nigeria is far greater than any individual and urged the President to prioritize the rule of law over political expediency by calling his Minister to order immediately.
