Benue records third COVID-19 case

Benue state Governor, Samuel Ortom, has said that another COVID-19 index case has been recorded in the state in person of Mrs. Rebecca Apedzan, a resident of Makurdi, the state capital.

Giving an update after an expanded consultative meeting of the state COVID-19 committee and other stakeholders at Government House, Makurdi on Monday, the governor said he had a meeting with the carrier and other people, adding that he will subject himself to another test even though he had tested negative before.

Governor Ortom, who appealed to those that came in contact with Mrs. Apedzan to come for free testing and treatment, commended the COVID-19 committee, Federal Medical Centre, Makurdi, the Benue stste University Teaching Hospital and other agencies for been alive to their responsibilities.

According to him, government has released N20 million for the completion of the child hospital and another N40 million for the renovation of the isolation center at the Benue state University Teaching Hospital to accommodate more patents.

He announced that an oil and gas company has donated 200 beds to the state as part of it efforts to assist the state fight the COVID-19 disease and promised to strengthen security at border areas through which people sneak into the state.

Governor Ortom disclosed that like governors of Kaduna, Bauchi and Ogun states who were COVID-19 positive, but we’re treated and discharged, the second victim, Mr. Manger is responding to treatment and may soon be discharged.

On appeal by churches and mosques to be reopened for activities, the governor said such an appeal will be looked into in the next two weeks, saying more face masks will be distributed to the public within the week.
