Bayelsa crisis: An attempt on my life – Council Chairman

The Care-taker Chairman of Brass Local Government area of Bayelsa state, Victor Isaiah, said the crisis that occurred in the area that left three persons dead was an attempt to take his life by some thugs sponsored by chieftains of a political party in the state.
He stated this in a statement issued in Yenagoa after inspecting some of the properties destroyed during the clash that reportedly claimed three lives and several injured.
The chairman who disassociated his party, the People Democratic Party (PDP) from the violence said the youths who made the attempt on his life by attacking his personal lodge with guns and other dangerous weapon were known political thugs used by a political party leader and a member of the Bayelsa State House of Assembly.
The statement said attempts by the thugs to gain entrance to his official lodge was met with resistance from the Local Government security volunteers group, saying that the PDP has nothing do with the violence.
“Few days ago, some suspected armed youths attacked the local government council Aide and PDP youths. Now, they attempted to assassinate me but met my absence and were resisted by our security volunteers,” said the statement.
He said, “One of the dead thugs, the mastermind and leader of the Monday, August 20th, failed assassination attempt on my life is a member of a political party in Brass and a known hardened criminal and cultist who escaped from police (SARS) custody in Yenagoa last year.
“Before his death, he was under police wanted list for breaking out of police (SARS) custody. After the successful cell break, he ran to Brass and was provided refuge by a political party chieftain.
“The reports of his misdemeanours are notoriously known in Brass as he is daily fingered for armed robbery, snatching of phones, harassment of indigenes, etc.
“He was empowered and given a matching order by Leaders of a party in Brass to harass and intimate members of the PDP.”
He called on the Federal Government, the Inspector General of Police (IGP) and other relevant security agencies to investigate without bias, the alleged activities of the political party chieftain and ensure security in the community especially as election draws nearer.
Meanwhile the APC in the state, through the leadership of the party has sent a protest letter to the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris over the Monday violent attack and killing of two members of the party.
