Bauchi procures 1,000 tricycles to replace banned commercial motorcycles
The Bauchi state government has announced that it has purchased 1,000 tricycles for onward distribution to those affected by the recent ban on commercial motorcycle operations in the state.

This was contained in a press statement issued by Comrade Muktar Gidado, Senior Special Assistant on Media to Governor Bala Mohammed on Monday.
He said that “350 tricycles have arrived Bauchi state out of the1, 000 that would be distributed to those affected by the ban on commercial motorcycle operations in the state.”
Mukhtar said Governor Bala had while inspecting the tricycles, said their purchase is to cushion the effects of the ban on commercial motorcycle on the operators.
According to him, the state government has already released N250 million out of the amount budgeted for the project.
The governor said, 300 tricycles would also be distributed to members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) and National Assoviation of Road Transport Owners (NARTO) as part of government’s desire to boost the transport sector.
“As you are aware, we have pledged to provide the necessary tools and ingredients for the people of our state as part of the ongoing fight against COVID-19 pandemic to enable citizens exercise social distancing,” Bala said.

The governor who recalled that government has banned the operations of commercial motorcyclisys in the state, noted that the 350 tricycles are among the 1, 000 that his administration planned to distribute to those affected by the ban.
He pointed out that tricycles would be distributed under a hire purchase scheme, revealing that the World Bank has supported the state government to actualise the project aimed at women and youth empowerment.
“Whatever we are doing in Bauchi state, we are doing it with planning; we have gotten support from the World Bank for support to some sectors and we are grateful to them.”
