Baraje Proffers Solutions To Nigeria’s Economic, Security Challenges

Former national acting chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party ( PDP), Alh Abubakar Kawu Baraje, on Tuesday said that Nigeria needs a change of government during the next general elections, given the excruciating economic challenges facing the people.

He said there is a lot of poverty in the land and that there’s no hope that things would get better under the current administration of President  Bola Tinubu. Baraje spoke with journalists at the sidelines of a special prayer organised by his friends to mark his 75th year birthday in Ilorin, Kwara State.

” The economy is not improving and we are all feeling it in a negative way. And  there is no hope that it will get better under the current administration. ” Nigerians  should be patient and remain resilient as there is highest level of poverty in the country. It’s getting worse. But by the time that is necessary to change the government, they should not hesitate. Nigerians need a change from the present situation,” he said.

Baraje said that the country would surmount its economic and security challenges only when the citizens learn to elect leaders whose policies take cognisance of their welfare. He advised whoever wants to govern the country to ensure that,” whatever policies the government will be implementing are in tune with the expectations and welfare of Nigerians”.

The former PDP boss also scored the Tinubu government low in the area of security, saying the government was not doing enough to tackle the insecurity challenges confronting the country. ” Government should give the traditional rulers more role in tackling insecurity. Security should be in the hands of the people and especially, our monarchs.

But we are not getting the best from the traditional rulers with their vast experiences because they have been surpressed,” Baraje added. At the prayer session, Muslim clerics and some associates of Baraje, took turns to extol his virtues of humility, generosity and trustworthiness.
