Bandits kill Islamic Cleric in Zamfara
Early last year 2025, a renown Islamic Cleric from Maru town was Kidnapped, kept for some days and killed after ransom was paid. Also in January this year 2026, an Islamic Cleric is kidnapped in Gusau town and killed after a ransom of of two million, seventy thousand (N20,70,0000) was forcefully collected from the family by bandits.
This raised a question in the minds of many requesting to know the actual offense of an innocent Cleric which has led to the kidnap, detention, collection of ransom and murder without any rescue intervention from the state government, the security agencies and the youths.
This calls for public scrutiny in Maru and in Gusau towns respectively
The executive Chairman of Gusau Local Government Area in Zamfara State, Abubakar Imam, condemned the killing of the Islamic cleric, Zainu Mada calling on the Federal and state Government to intervene in order to curb further future occurrence.
The LG chairman stated this when he paid a condolence visit to the family of the deceased on Friday.
The Chairman, who was accompanied by a lawmaker representing Gusau 2 Constituency at the House of Assembly, Alhaji Ibrahim Liman, sympathized with the family of the victim and prayed to God to forgive the deceased and grant him the most exalted paradise.
Malam Zainu Mada was kidnapped by bandits along Kotorkoshi-Mada road some days ago, and after collecting N2 million ransom, a motorcycle, and N70,000 recharge cards, the bandits went ahead to kill Mada and instructed his family to go and receive his corpse.
His funeral prayer was conducted on Thursday evening in his hometown, Mada, where hundreds of people gathered to pay their respects.
Mada town has been witnessing series of bandit attacks due to commercial activities in the area, where many people have lost their lives and millions of Naira have been paid as ransom.
Efforts to get comments from the spokesperson of the state police command failed, as he could not be reached by phone.
