Babachir, Ayo’s sack long overdue, says Jaiyeola

The first vice president of Institute of chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) and chief consultant of A.J. Silicon, Alhaji Razak Jaiyeola has said that the sack of former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Babachir Lawal and former Director General of National Intelligence Agency (NIA), Ambassador Ayo Oke, was long overdue as Nigerians have long waited for the delayed Federal Government decision.
Jaiyeola who made this known during an interview with The Daily Times, noted that “there has been a lot of delay in decision making process that led to the sack of the SGF and NIA boss,” he said, adding that “it was well understandable that President Muhammadu Buhari was away to attend to his health predicament and by the time he arrived the country, there was also the need to take time to sort out the investigation before taking the needful decision.
“One has to understand the government’s approach towards this sack, which shows that you don’t appoint someone into a position of authority and when an allegation is made without due investigation, you just sack such person like that, it was really appealing to see the government taking time to investigate, by setting up a committee, chaired by the Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osibanjo who investigated the matter and the committee later took a decision in accordance to what most Nigerians felt was right, I am in support of this,” he said.
Jaiyeola noted that the Federal Government should meet the expectations of Nigerians by taking further actions on the law and those found guilty be handed over the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC ), or other agencies that handles corrupt practices in the country.
He lamented the fact that infrastructural deficiency has not allowed President Buhari to move the way he would want to speed up government projects to Nigerians expectation.
“The appointment of Justice Ayo Salami’s panel to monitor corrupt cases meant a stone wall, by the time Justice Salami looked at the circumstances of the cases brought to him he found out that he would not be able to act the way he would want to, not wanting to soil his good name, he decided to decline his appointment, due process should be followed when corrupt cases arise, just as it was done in the matters of Babachir and Ayo,” he said.
Jaiyeola urged Nigerians to be patient, as the government meant well for the nation, but needs the necessary support from citizens to be able to excel, adding that the newly appointed SGF, Boss Mustaph‘s profile appears to be the right man for the job.
