Ayo Adesanya: Domestic Abuse in My Marriage Led Me to Alcoholism

Veteran Nollywood actress Ayo Adesanya has opened up about the harrowing domestic abuse she endured in her failed marriage, revealing that it pushed her into alcoholism.

In an emotional interview with media personality Chude Jideonwo, Adesanya disclosed that her ex-husband subjected her to physical abuse for a decade, attempting to control her career and even threatening her life. “He stopped me from acting and once threatened to pluck out my eyes with a knife,” she revealed.

Despite the violence, the actress said she remained in the marriage out of fear of public shame. “Anywhere my ex-husband saw me, he would beat me. He beat me so much that I became an alcoholic. But I couldn’t leave because I was scared people would say I couldn’t keep a man,” she said.

Her revelations have sparked conversations about domestic violence and the societal pressures that trap women in abusive relationships. Fans and advocates are now calling for greater awareness and support for victims of domestic abuse.
