Awujale’s 2nd Annual Lecture to discuss civil society, governance

The Board of Trustees of the Oba (Dr) Sikiru Kayode Adetona, (CFR), Professorial Chair in Governance of the Department of Political Science, Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ogun State has announced that the second annual lecture will hold on May 10, 2018 at Ijebu Ode. The lecture is part of activities to commemorate the birthday of the donor of the Chair.

This year’s lecture will look at the civil society and governance in Nigeria’s budding democracy. According to the Chairman of the Board of Trustees, of the Oba (Dr) Sikiru Kayode Adetona Professorial Chair in Governance, Olatunji Ayanlaja (SAN), “the professorial chair will keep striving for the enthronement of transparency and good governance in Nigeria.”

He disclosed that the professorial chair-holder, Prof Ayodele Olukotun will deliver the annual lecture on the topic, ‘Civil Society and Governance in Nigeria’s Evolving Democracy, 1999-2018,’ to further awaken public consciousness on the need for all hands to be on deck to achieve the noble objective of the Awujale of Ijebuland, Oba (Dr) Sikiru Kayode Adetona, CFR, in endowing the chair.

The inaugural lecture for the endowment of the professorial chair was held in May 2016, while the first annual lecture took place in 2017 with governance and media discussed by the professorial chair-holder, Prof Ayodele Olutokun, under the topic “Governance and the Media in an Emergent Democracy: A Study of the Role, Record and Changing Profile of the Nigerian Media 1999 – 2017.”
