Auctioneers’ union flays NASS alleged delay in bill passage

Worried by what it described as unnecessary delay in passage of its bill, the Certified Institute of Auctioneers of Nigeria (CIAN) has flayed the alleged delay by the National Assembly to pass the Auctioneering Bill into law with measure to ensuring professionalism in the industry.

The Registrar of the Institute Mr. Adeleke Hassan, who spoke with journalists on Sunday in Asaba while inaugurating the Delta state chapter of the institute, disclosed that the auctioneering industry has a window of opportunities that had not been adequately explored by the government, adding that the Industry could provide legitimate jobs for the teeming unemployed if well harnessed.

He said “Government needs to pay attention to auctioneering, he should develop and encourage auctioneers, that is the best thing, he should ensure that the institution’s bill before the National Assembly is passed into law to entrench professionalism, the passage of the bill among other things will eradicate quackery, the institute has international recognition with the largest auctioneering bodies in the world like the National Auctioneers Association, in and certified auctioneering institute in U.S.”

He further disclosed that CIAN started six years ago with members all over the states of the federation but Delta as the only chapter that has just been inaugurated in the South-South region.

Meanwhile, Ellu community, an oil rich producing kingdom in Isoko North local government area of the state has sought the intervention of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) to expedite action on the 11 abandoned road projects in the area.

While also seeking a possible way of flusing out the contractors mobilized to site since 2012 without doing nothing, the community President General, Prince Omoviye Thomas in a statement he signed, a copy made available to our reporter, stated that the entire community regrets the unfair treatment meted out on it in the abandoned projects. He said that the community which stands as one of the host communities to OML 26 Ogini Field flow station currently being managed by NPDC/AMT has nothing to showcase as development.

According to the statement, “Ellu community entirely regarded the act as being act of marginalization and deliberately left out in the scheme of things” but officials of the NDDC who did not want their names in the print in a swift reaction said the community SOS was receiving prompt attention.
