ATSSSAN gets new president.
Comrade Ahmadu Ilitrus has been elected the president of the Air Transport Senior Staff Services Association of Nigeria (ATSSSAN) after polling 61 votes to beat his closest rival, Comrade Chukwu Emmanuel.
At its Delegates Conference held at Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State, there were 99 delegates but valid votes cast were 97 and the contest which lasted barely 20 minutes was conducted by Mrs Joyce Damachi who represented the Registrar of Trade Unions, Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment, Abuja declared the winner at 11.08 and the executives were subsequently sworn in by Barrister Lawal Musa, the Secretary of the Trade Union Congress (TUC).
Mrs Sarah Rindans and Mr Emmanuel Jaja were both returned unopposed as National Deputy Presidents while Comrades Akingbokun Oludayisi and Olanipekun Olairan were both returned as Vice presidents.
Onoja Pius was returned as the financial secretary while Kenneth Obiakor was elected National treasurer and Oge Okpanya emerged as National Women leader, Augustine Ohaka and Hilda Benedict Anyasi clinched the auditor positions.
After taking his oath of office, Comrade llitrus the new ATSSSAN President, in his acceptance speech called for togetherness and innovative ways of moving the union forward.
“I feel humbled and honoured to carry your pains, joys and troubles. We must work together; we must be innovative and provide viable alternatives to the government on the way forward. We must sit up to our responsibility and ensure we move ATSSSAN to greater heights. I am carrying everyone along in this administration.”
Earlier while reeling out his manifesto, Ilitrus affirmed a strong opposition to the idea of concessioning the nation’s airports and highlighted a keen interest to improve the welfare of members.
Also speaking, Comrade Chukwu Emmanuel, who contested with Ilitrus, congratulated him for the victory and pledged to work with him to move the industry and the Union forward.
Chukwu said the new President’s victory was a victory for all of them and enjoined all to work together for the benefit of all.
