Athletes arrive Markurdi for NUGA Games

Athletes and officials slated to participate in the 2017 Nigeria University Games Association (NUGA) Games are expected to arrive Makurdi on Wednesday for the biennial sports fiesta’s commencement on Saturday.
The games were first staged at the University of Ibadan in 1966 with 36 universities as members.
The Federal University Makurdi (UAM), the first non-conventional university to host the games since its debut, will however be hosting 53 institutions.
The games slated to end on April 30 will see the universities competing for medals in 16 games to be played in five venues within Makurdi.
Speaking to newsmen on Tuesday in Makurdi, spokesman of the Local Organising Committee ( LOC), Rosemary Waku, said all was set for the opening ceremony on Saturday.
Waku, who is also the university’s Head of Information Department, said the games symposium would be held on April 27 at the institution’s auditorium.
