Mali colonel, Assimi Goita, declares himself Junta Leader
On Wednesday, Colonel Assimi Goita of the Malian army declared himself as the leader of the coup that overthrew President Ibrahim Boubacar Keita.
“Let me introduce myself; I am colonel Assimi Goita, chairman of the National Committee for the salvation of the People,” he said after meeting top civil servants.
Daily Times gathered that the colonel had appeared on television overnight to announce the takeover among a group of officers on Tuesday-Wednesday but did not speak.
