Asagba of Asaba withdraws from proposed Anioma State technical C’ttee

The Asagba of Asaba, His Royal Majesty Prof. Epiphany C. Azinge, OON, SAN, has formally withdrawn from his role as Chairman of the Technical Committee driving the agitation for the creation of Anioma State.
The decision, announced through a statement signed by his Personal Secretary, Ogbueshi Dr. (Engr.) Jude C. Mgbeze, takes immediate effect.
According to the statement, HRM remains firmly committed to the long-standing dream of establishing Anioma State within its historically recognized cultural boundaries. However, he can no longer participate in the committee due to “irreconcilable differences” regarding two key issues.
First, HRM expressed strong concerns over disagreements on the geographical boundaries and territorial delineation proposed for the new state. Second, he condemned what he described as “clandestine and delusional moves” to relocate the proposed state capital away from Asaba.
The monarch emphasized that, as the custodian of Asaba’s traditions and interests, he cannot be part of any process that could “liquidate or decimate” his kingdom. His Oath of Office, he stressed, obliges him to protect and defend the wellbeing of Asaba people at all times.
“Anything that will lead HRM to compromise his oath of office will always be rejected,” the statement read.
Despite his withdrawal from the committee, HRM reaffirmed his unwavering support for the creation of Anioma State, provided it aligns with the historical identity and legitimate aspirations of the Anioma people.
