Armed men rob school bursar N3m in Ondo

A gang of armed men on Thursday, invaded a public boarding school in Akure, Ondo State capital, St Peter’s Unity Secondary School, along Oyemekun road, carting away about N3 million belonging to the school.

It was gathered that the armed men trailed the school’s bursar, who went to withdraw the money from the bank to the school premises.

According to a source, the robbers who were armed scared the students and staff of the schools during the raid which lasted for about ten minutes.

He said students and workers of the school scampered to safety during the operation.

He explained that the robbers however left with the money before the arrival of the security operatives from the State Police command.

Confirming the development, the State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) Mr. Femi Joseph, said the robbers trailed the bursar of the school from the bank to the school premises.

Joseph blamed the bursar for going to the bank for the transaction without police escort.

He said the bursar has been arrested saying the police from the command has begun investigation into the robbery.

“There was no robbery in the school, the robbers only traced the bursar from the bank to the school and disposed him of the money.

“What we learnt was that the hoodlums traced him to the school after he had gone to withdraw a large sum of money without police protection. The money should be close to three million naira.

“He is with us, and he is helping us with investigation. We will quiz him to know whether he knows more than he claims.” Joseph said.
