Apologise to SGF for smear campaign – Group urges Senate

The coalition for Good Governance and Change Initiative (CGGCI) and 38 other civil society organisations have called on the senate to tender an unreserved apology to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, (SGF), Babachir Lawal, and Nigerians for raising a false alarm and smear campaign against the SGF.
Speaking during a press conference in Abuja, yesterday, the national coordinator, Comrade Okpokwu Ogenyi, described the actions of the senate as an indirect attack on President Muhammadu Buhari.
‘’We called for an immediate apology which should be done through an advertorial in not less than five national dailies on their front pages within 72 hours or face both mass and legal actions. Nigerians are not fools.
‘’As responsible Nigerians, we appeal to the SGF not to be distracted by the Senator Shehu Sani led ad-hoc committee’s frivolous report. We are aware that it was doctored just to smear your good image and that of Mr. President before the world.
‘’The height of this parliamentary rascality is the false accusation of SGF of operating a private company, alleging that he also serves as a shareholding director as well as a signatory to the same company’s account and hurriedly recommended or advised that he resigns or be sacked.
“It is very clear, that almost all Nigerians know the SGF’s status as an engineer who operate the private company but duly resigned from its board upon assumption of public office, a step boldly and fully documented.”
