Apete Community Pledges Support For Seyi Makinde

Worried by alleged neglect of Apete community by the out-going All Progressives Congress (APC) Abiola Ajimobi-led administration in Oyo State, the residents of the community, an outskirts of Ibadan metropolis in Ido Local Government area of the state said they were eagerly waiting for the government to be formed by Seyi Makinde of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) as from 29th May, this year.

The residents, who trooped out in large number to welcome the governorship campaign train of Makinde, which toured Ido LG at weekend told the SDP flag-bearer that they could not wait for the 11th April date of the governorship election to use their votes to usher-in a government with human face personified by him.

At the market square of the community, one of the traders, surrounded by her colleagues, youths and other residents who spoke with journalists, Alhaja Ajoke Ibirogba said, “with what we have been subjected to since the 2011 August when flood ravaged Ibadan, we need to have a change of government in the state this year.

“Makinde has demonstrated his love, kindness and human feeling to us in this community and we are sure that somebody like him would not be the state governor and allow us to have suffered this much in the last four years and it is not as if the suffering has ended.

“We are only sure that with him as the next occupier of Agodi Government House, a new lease of life will be our portion. For somebody to be so caring, using his personal money to address the welfare needs of the people the way he has been doing, his government will be very soothing.

“Look at the road leading to the community from Ijokodo/WAEC junction, for four years, the outgoing government could not fix it, but, instead, we have been subjected to untold hardship occasioned by dust due to haphazard job done on the road.

“Now, the contractor handling the job has carried away his equipments and you can imagine what we are going to face when rain comes now, which is why we are all yearning for a new government to be headed by Makinde because of his concern for the people’s well-being as demonstrated in the past when he organized free transportation for us here when the pedestrian bridge was swept away among several other things he did”, the woman said.

Makinde told the people of the local government at all his campaign spots at Apete, Awotan, Akufo, Erin-koja-obe, Ido and Omi-Adio that the government to be formed by SDP under him would bring government nearer to them by ensuring that the local government councils in the state are headed by democratically elected people.

He equally assured the people that the land resource with which the council is endowed with would become a great asset under his administration because of the agricultural programme of the government, stressing that with SDP administration in place in the state, “you can all be rest assured of life in abundance by the grace of God”.

The SDP governorship candidate charged the people not to allow the opportunity of the remaining days for the collection of their Permanent Voter’s Cards (PVCs) to slip by without making use of it, saying, “your PVC is your power to install the government of your choice and I appeal to you in the name of anything that is good to ensure you collect your cards and cast your votes for our party and see the wonders God will do through us in this state”.
