APC’s Joshua Ishaku Wins Bwari Chairmanship Seat Following Supreme Court Victory

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared Joshua Ishaku of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the winner of the Bwari Area Council chairmanship election in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

The results were announced Sunday morning by the returning officer, Mohammed Nurudeen. Ishaku secured a total of 18,466 votes to emerge victorious in a contest across the 10 wards of the council, including Kubwa, Dutse, and Bwari Central.

The candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) placed second with 4,254 votes, while the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) candidate followed with 3,515 votes.

Ishaku’s electoral triumph comes just one week after a significant legal victory at the Supreme Court. On February 16, the apex court affirmed him as the rightful chairmanship candidate for the APC, overturning an earlier appellate court ruling that had recognized Haruna Audi.

The Supreme Court justices upheld a dissenting judgment by Justice Okon Abang, which identified Ishaku as the legitimate candidate, and subsequently ordered INEC to publish his name on the ballot ahead of the February 21 polls.

With this win, the APC further consolidates its control within the FCT area councils, marking a successful end to a week of both legal and political battles for the Ishaku campaign.
