APC wins re-run in Imo federal constituency

The All Progressive Congress (APC) candidate, Princess Miriam Onuoha has been declared the winner of the re-run election for Isiala Mbano/Okigwe/Onuimo Federal Constituency of Imo state held on Saturday.
She defeated Obinna Onwubuariri of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

According to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Princess Onuoha of the APC scored 24, 690 votes while Onwubuariri of the PDP pulled 10, 010 votes and Onyeiwu Uba of the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) came third with 263 votes.
The number of registered voters is in the federal constituency is 200, 684 while accredited voters were 38, 244. The total number of rejected votes during the re-run was 815 and total no of votes cast stood at 35, 198, representing a percentage turnout of19.0 per cent.
In all, 28 political parties participated in the re-run election and the margin of lead between the first and second position is 13, 680 votes.
Our correspondent reports that low turnout of voters on Saturday marred the re-run election in Okigwe North Federal Constituency of Imo state.
Even though there were no records of electoral violence and ballot paper snatching, however, most of the electorate stayed away from the voting centres.

Former Senator Ifeanyi Araraume, who spoke to journalists after casting his vote at his Osu Achara ward, said that he is satisfied with way the exercise was conducted.
The politician said that there was an alliance to deliver the APC candidate, Mirriam Onuoha.
