APC wins presidential poll in Oyo
The All Progressives Congress (APC) won 27 of the 33 local government areas of Oyo, polling 528,620 votes while the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) scored 303,376 votes from a total of 928,606 votes cast in the state during the presidential election
held in the state last Saturday.
Announcing the results this morning, the Returning Officer for the state, Professor Ayobami Salami, who is the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academics), Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile Ife, said a total of 1,073,849 voters were accredited from a total of 2,344,448 registered voters in the state.
He said further that a total of 47,254 votes
were voided from the total votes cast, which made a total valid votes to stand at 881,352. The APC beat PDP with 225,244 votes, while the remaining 49,356 votes were shared by other 12 political
parties.
Minister of State for the Federal Capital Territory, Oloye Jumoke Akinjide, her father, Chief Richard Akinjide, who is a former Minister of Justice, and the PDP governorship candidate in Oyo State, Senator Teslim Folarin, could not win their Ona Ara Local Government for President Goodluck Jonathan.
The APC presidential candidate, Gen Muhammadu Buhari (retd) defeated Jonathan in the local government as he
polled 12,291 as against Jonathan, who scored 7,175 votes in the
council.
Also, former deputy national chairman of PDP, Alhaji Yekeen Adeojo, could not at the same time win his Ido Local
Government for Jonathan as APC polled 17,235 and PDP scored 6,538
votes in the council.
But PDP won in Itesiwaju Local Government, where the current Deputy Senate Whip, Hosea Agboola, representing Oyo
North senatorial districts in the National Assembly, hails
from.
The PDP also won in all the five local government areas in Ogbomoso axis, which are Ogbomoso South, Oriire, Ogo Oluwa, Ogbomoso North and Surulere.
Ogbomoso is believed to be the stronghold of the governorship candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Otunba Adebayo Alao-Akala. In Ogbomoso South, where Alao-Akala hailed from, PDP beat APC with 15,521 to 5,984 votes.
The APC won in all the 11 local government areas
of Ibadanland, such as Akinyele, Egbeda, Ibadan North, Ibadan
North-East, Ibadan North-West, Ibadan South-East, Ibadan
South-West, Oluyole, Ona Ara, Lagelu and Ido. The party also won in
the four local governments under Oyo town such as Afijio, Atiba,
Oyo East and Oyo West.
The APC also cleared the three local governments
in Ibarapa zone such as Ibarapa East, Ibarapa Central and Ibarapa
North. In Oke Ogun zone, apart from Itesiwaju won by PDP, APC won
the remaining nine local governments such as Saki East, Saki West,
Kajola, Iseyin, Irepo, Iwajowa, Atisbo, Orelope and
Olorunsogo.
