APC primaries: Consensus will eliminate moles in Kwara – Chieftain

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), in Kwara, Alhaji Kunle Sulyman has appealed to the national officers of the party to adopt consensus option in selecting the party’s flag bearer.

Sulyman, who made the appeal on Friday in Ilorin while speaking with journalists was of the view that only consensus, would eliminate moles planted in APC from hijacking the party.

“It is better to adopt consensus for the selection of the governorship candidate to eliminate moles planted in APC.

“I know that not less than six of the aspirants in our party were planted and financed by PDP stalwart to hijack APC.

“We should not give room for him to carry out his plan to hijack both PDP and APC in Kwara,” Sulyman added.

He stressed that if the national secretariat of the party adopted consensus in the state, it would remove any rancour that may arise from indirect primary.

Sulyman, a lawyer and pioneer chairman of PDP in Kwara said adopting consensus candidate would remove spending huge sums of money by aspirants.

He appealed to elders and stakeholders of the party to join hands with him in appealing to the national officers to adopt consensus candidate in the interest of the party.

Sulyman however said that in the event the consensus option failed, the national officers should fall back to direct primary, pleaded that indirect primary should not be used.

According to him, indirect primary would not produce the most popular candidate as aspirant with money would buy off delegates.

“In direct primary, you don’t know who to buy with huge sum of money because all card carrying members of the party are eligible to vote in direct primary,” Sulyman added.

He said the APC Advisory Committee in Kwara, which he was a member met severally with the Minister of Information, Alhaji Lai Mohammed where mode of the primary was discussed.

“At the meeting, we resolved that in the absence of consensus approach, direct primary should be adopted,” he said.
