APC poses threat to conduct of free elections in Rivers, PDP alleges

Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Rivers state, Chief Felix Obuah, has accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state of posing a threat to the conduct of free, peaceful and credible elections in 2019.

Chief Oduah said in Port Harcourt yesterday that the PDP had noted with dismay the alleged unguarded utterances of the APC Chairman in the state, Olukaye Amachree which he claimed constituted a threat to the smooth conduct of the 2019 general elections in Rivers state.

He alleged that “while the dust raised by Ojukaye Amachree during Port Harcourt state Constituency 3 bye-election which led to its suspension by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) was yet to settle, the APC factional state chairman has again boasted that the 2019 general elections, especially the governorship election would be anything but free and fair.

“Ranting through a series of comments on his Facebook wall, Ojukaye insisted that whatever that is needed to be done to remove Gov. Nyesom Wike from office would be done not minding the means and cost”.

The Rivers state PDP said that the alleged statements from Amachree coming less than 24 hours after the visit of the ambassador of Ireland to Nigeria and his European Union counterpart to Rivers state was highly “irresponsible and inciting”.

Chief Obuah appealed to the INEC, the police, the military as well as the international community to take note of the alleged “self-indicting statements of Ojukaye”.

The state PDP boss also warned against treating Ojukaye’s threats as an empty talk so as to save the state from the imminent danger of the APC’s plot.

He added that “this is an open admission by Ojukaye who is still walking about the council areas of the state issuing threats as an untouchable, simply because of the underserved immunity being given to him from being arrested for the havoc he wreaked during the Port Harcourt state Constituency 3 bye-election.

“This should serve as a reference point at the appropriate time so that he (Ojukaye) will not as usual, begin to point accusing fingers at innocent persons after carrying out his threat with his police-backed thugs”.
