APC plots to rig Rivers rerun with support from INEC, security agencies, Wike alleges

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, has again accused the All Progressives Congress (APC), of plotting to rig the December 10 re-run elections with the active support of the Independent National Electoral Commission, (INEC), and the security agencies. .
He said that this would explain why the party had refused to campaign for the polls. He, however, warned that the plot would not succeed because the people of Rivers State were vigilant and would not be intimidated by the illegal use of security agents to aid INEC to rig.
He spoke at Emohua on Tuesday where he flagged-off the rehabilitation of the General Hospital , Emohua and the reconstruction of the Rumuakunde-Rumuche-Akpa-Abaka road.
The governor called on Emohua Youths to rise up and defend their votes , pointing out that this was the time to send non-performing politicians on retirement .
He said: “They have refused to campaign because they have received assurances of rigging. The man who plans to hijack materials, how many heads does he have? Emohua people must stand up to defend their votes. ”
Speaking further, Governor Wike urged the people of Emohua to hold their prominent politicians to account, pointing out that most of them spent eight years in office without attracting a worthwhile project to the local government area.
The governor said that the two projects flagged are targeted at improving the living standard of the Emohua people.
Reacting to the accusations of plotting to perpetrate electoral malpractices, the APC dismissed the claims of Governor Wike, stating that he had thrown all caution to the wind as he was launching a campaign of blackmail on everyone especially the APC, INEC and the Nigeria Police.
In a press statement signed by its spokesman, the APC said: “Like the proverbial masquerade that has lost his entire arrows, Gov. Nyesom Wike is cutting a pitiable image of a disarmed dictator and this is understandable. Fact is that Gov. Nyesom Wike has never embarked on any election without buying over the police and the rest of the security agencies. He has also not engaged in any election without taking firm control of the election umpire and the judiciary. The height of this malfeasance was in the 2015 elections when he introduced another factor – the use of ex-militants and hoodlums who killed and maimed for him while INEC wrote election results with Wike’s men across Rivers State.”
