The Senator representing Kaduna Central in the upper Chamber of the National Assembly, Senator Shehu Sani has finally dump his party, the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Sani said he joined the party for the believe that the party will constitute a veritable platform for the realization of those democratic ideals which he held dear, but now could not be found in the party.

In the same vein, Senator Magnus Ngei Abe, a gubernatorial aspirant of the party in Rivers State has thrown in the towel for not being given the mandate to fly the party’s governorship flag in the 2019 general election

Abe, the governorship hopeful lost in the primary election which he described as impunity of the highest order.

Senator Sani a fortnight ago was reported to have won the Kaduna Central Senatorial seat after beating four other contestants but surprisingly, his name was not submitted to the election umpire the Independent Electoral Commission (INEC) as the party’s flag bearer of the Senatorial District.

In a resignation letter dated 19th October, 2018 addressed to the APC Chairman and four others, Senator Sani said:

“I present to you my highest compliments and wish by this, communicate to you formally of my resignation from the All Progressives Congress (APC).

“I had joined the party and remained with it against all odds to the believe that it will constitute a veritable platform for the realization of those democratic ideals which I hold very dear, that honor and integrity will be the ultimate ethos of the party and most importantly that internal party democracy will always be the norm.

However, only posterity can affirm the extent to which the APC has committed to and reflected these values.

“As I exit the party at this point in time, I wish to formally thank the party for availing me the platform upon which I am currently serving this country in the honoured capacity of Senator of the Federal Republic.

“I wish the party well in all its future endeavours and ask, sir, that you may please accept the assurance of my highest considerations”.

In his reactions, the Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the party, Yekini Nabena said; “Senator Shehu Sani defected because the party did not keep its own side of the promise as there was believed to be a deal between the Senator and the party”.

The party had earlier promised to reward steadfast members who stood by the party during the major exodus from the party of notable members from the Senate, Governors, National and States Houses of Assembly members.

The National Publicity Secretary of the APC, Mallam Lanre Orinlu when asked noted that the Senator representing Kaduna Central has resigned his membership of the ruling APC adding; “the law maker took the decision following the controversies which trailed the party’s primaries for the 2019 elections”.

Meanwhile, wife of the President, Aisha Buhari has frowned at the APC for its undemocratic principles.

Mrs. Buhari, in a tweet on her official handle @aishambuhari, lamented that the APC denied many aspirants the opportunity to earn the party tickets after purchasing its expensive forms.

“It is disheartening to note that some aspirants used their hard earned money to purchase nomination forms, got screened, cleared and campaigned vigorously yet found their names omitted on Election Day, these forms were bought at exorbitant prices.

“Many others contested and yet had their result delayed, knowing that automatic tickets have been given to other people”, she said.

She expressed dismay that: “All Progressives Congress being a party whose cardinal principle is change and headed by a comrade/ activist whose main concern is for the common man, yet, such impunity could take place under its watch”.

She called on Nigerians to dump aspirants who are not committed to the provision of democratic dividends.
