APC chairmen ask party to extend membership registration exercise

State Chairmen of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have urged the party’s leadership to extend the ongoing membership revalidation and registration exercise around the world.
Following a closed-door meeting, they made the announcement at a news conference in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital, on Thursday.
The forum’s chairman, Ali Buka-Dalori, explained that the exercise had to be expanded to enable more people to enter the APC.
He said that the rise in Nigerian participation and the strength of the party in recent months meant that more Nigerians were willing to join the party.
“We, the APC state chairmen, refer to the party’s leadership and the CECPC to consider and carry out a further extension of the exercise in the interest of the party and all intending members of the party across the country.

“As a result, we recommend that the exercise be enlarged to allow us to include all willing citizens in our various states,” he said.
According to Buka-Dalori, the APC Chairman in Borno, the logistics bottleneck and complexity of the registration materials distribution operation.
He bemoaned the fact that a number of states had only recently received the materials necessary to begin the second phase of the registration process, and thus would be unable to meet the updated registration deadline.
The forum chairman welcomed the decision of the party’s leadership to conduct the exercise, calling it a positive move.
“As soon as the exercise started, we all saw the need for an extension to accommodate the second stage of the exercise, given the large turnout of Nigerians to affiliate with the party that had not been properly prepared for,” he said.
“Further extension has logically emerged after analyzing the situation and arranging for the appropriate materials to get everybody into the fold of the group.”
