APC calls for cancellation of Enugu LGA polls’ results
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has rejected the results of last Saturday’s local government election held in Enugu State and called for its cancellation.
In a petition letter addressed to the chairman of Enugu State Independent Electoral Commission (ENSIEC), Dr. Mike Ajogwu, the party accused the electoral body of compromising the electoral process.
It said: “Please take note that the All Progressives Congress (APC) by this letter do hereby reject in its entirety the purported results of the Enugu State local government elections purportedly held on November 4, 2017.
The petition titled, “Notice of rejection of the results of Enugu state local government election” said its resolve to reject the results was based on the fact that “The ENSIEC chairman, Dr. Ajogwu, acting directly and through his agents and employees willfully and wantonly refused to allow APC agents to observe the distribution of sensitive electoral materials before and during the election.
The letter signed by state chairman of the party, Dr. Ben Nwoye, and made available to Daily Times in Enugu, Tuesday, stated thus: “This willful act was perpetrated in order to give the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), undue advantage during the election proper.
It added that the decision was taken because “the ENSIEC chairman, acting directly and through his agents and employees gave the results sheets to agents, members and candidates of PDP.
Shortly thereafter, PDP, agents filled in the results sheets, and allocated winning numbers to their candidates.
The APC equally accused Ajogwu, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), of failing to provide results sheets at the polling units and collation centres, alleging that the commission also failed to make appropriate security arrangements to prevent electoral violence which marred the election.
As a result of that, “Great number of APC supporters, candidates, and leaders suffered severe bodily harm” adding that the polls which was characterised by violence, that resulted to heavy gunshots left many people suffered gunshot wounds, stab wounds, kidnapping, torture, molestation and false imprisonment.
“For the forgoing reasons and others not mentioned herein, All Progressives Congress demands immediate cancellation of the purported local government election held on November 4, 2017”, he stated.
