APC Alao Akala in war of words over Buhari/Akala poster
The All Progressives Congress (Apc) in Oyo State has taken a swipe at the gubernatorial candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Chief Adebayo Alao-Akala, over a claim that the former governor was the sponsor of a plot to use the name of the President-Elect, General Muhammadu Buhari, in a bid to enjoy sympathy from the electorates ahead of the next week polls in the state.
Meanwhile the Labour Party (LP) gubernatorial candidate in Oyo State, Otunba Adebayo Alao-Akala has described as wicked the posters circulated within the State bearing his picture and that of president-elect, General Muhammadu Buhari with the inscription “Sai Buhari, Sai Akala” boldly written on it.
Alao-Akala in a statement signed by his director of public affairs, Oludare Ogunlana, that “though I have no hatred for the newly elected president, but why would I used his picture to sell my candidature at this point when it is certain that the incumbent administration has few months in office,
Akala is contesting the governorhip election under the platform of the LP while General Muhammadu Buhari is of the All Progressives Congress, APC ” He said .
Reacting to the development, the APC in a statement issued by its Director of Publicity and Strategy, Olawale Sadare, described the development as another shameful act coming from enemies of the good people of the state.
“Not a few people found it unbelievable to see the picture of the President-elect, General Muhammadu Buhari, on Alao-Akala’s campaign posters. Since Wednesday evening when those disgusting posters were sighted in parts of Ibadan, a good number of concerned citizens have been expressing their amazement at the development.
“Meanwhile, the ruling APC in the state view the action of the sponsors of such obnoxious campaign materials as a desperation taken too far. It is indeed another in the series of grand delusion which most members of the opposition have been feeding the public with in their bid to hijack power and return the state to the era of bad governance, official corruption and impunity.
“The least discerning member of the public knows that General Buhari, who is of the All Progressives Congress (APC), is so principled that he can contemplate throwing up a corrupt element for an election or appointment.
Notwithstanding his staunch membership of the APC, the whole knows that General Buhari would always go for the best and in the case of Oyo State; Senator Abiola Ajimobi is Buhari’s choice.
“Judging by the public understanding of his person and what he has always represented, General Buhari would rather encourage anyone with tainted record of integrity to step down from contesting the April 11, 2015 gubernatorial poll in the state.
If both Ladoja and Akala, who currently facing gargantuan corruption charges in the law courts would not spare any efforts to contest and win elections at all cost again, patriots need to be worried.
“These characters may try many antics to mislead the public as they are won’t to do but the APC remains confident of voters in the state as capable of giving them a sour pill of humiliation at the polls on April 11 like they did last weekend when the candidates of the APC were overwhelmingly elected.
The people know that should Senator Ajimobi be allowed to continue in office till 2019, their dreams of a greater, prosperous and developed Oyo State would be realized.
“Therefore, we urge members of the public to disregard the evil posters as well as other fake and offensive campaign materials being circulated by failed politicians to mislead voters in the state. We equally call on the law enforcement agents to track down those circulating these materials and their sponsors with a view to making them face the music as a result of their wicked actions against the society.” APC said.
Alao Akala said further that it was another ploy to reduce his soaring popularity, boasting that there would be change of government in Oyo State on May 29.
He said the purported posters were untrue because “I am a member of the LP while the president-elect is of the APC. It is shameful for the dying APC administration in the State to resort to such indecent propaganda when it is very obvious that their administration is living on a borrowed time”.
“Such political lies wrapped with expired falacy can only be marketable to politicians of yesteryears. Deliberately, they went to the press to react it thinking that people will succunb to their lies. Those eras when lies thrived are gone for good. Governor Abiola Ajimobi should be preparing his handover note because the people have already resolved to send him packing”.
Saying that he was confident of ousting the incumbent administration, he said the success of General Muhammadu Buhari in last Saturday’s election cannot be enough to save Governor Abiola Ajimobi in next week gubernatorial election.
