Anthony Joshua was involved in a road accident on Monday along the Lagos-Ibadan expressway.
Gbenga Omotosho, Lagos commissioner for information, said the crash occurred around the Shagamu interchange area of the highway. He added that the Lagos state government promptly deployed an ambulance to the scene.
Images from the accident site showed Joshua without a shirt, standing amid the wreckage and surrounded by onlookers. The former heavyweight champion appeared to have escaped serious injury.
Eyewitnesses quoted by The Punch said two people died in the crash, while Joshua sustained only minor injuries.
The accident reportedly happened when a Lexus SUV, with registration number KRD 850 HN, rammed into a stationary truck on the road.
The incident comes nine days after Joshua knocked out Jake Paul in an exhibition heavyweight bout at the Kaseya Centre in Miami. The boxer has since been in Nigeria for the yuletide holidays.
