ANSG insists on demolition of shanties

The Anambra State government has reiterated its determination and commitment to continue to demolish shanties and illegal structures that are defacing the Awka capital City and other major towns in the state as part of effort towards keeping the state clean.
The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Awka Capital Territory Development Authority, (ACTDA), Ven Amaechi Okwuosa, stated this while briefing newsmen in Awka.

Ven Okwuosa observed that some developers blatantly erect structures on drainages and other unauthorised places, thereby causing obstruction to flow of water in the area.
The ACTDA boss vowed to continue demolishing those illegal structures, as one option to check erosion in the city.
“Anambra is battling with erosion as a result of the illegal structures. Some erosion sites have claimed lives and the state government is putting efforts to check those erosion and reclaim the lands.

“We cannot tolerate such illegal acts to the detriment of our loved ones. We advise prospective builders to visit ACTDA office or relevant agencies for proper guidelines.
“The vision of the state government, under the leadership of Governor Willie Obiano is to transform Anambra, especially Awka City, to make it a befitting Smart City.
“With this vision, we are working towards the direction, which is our desire to turn Awka to modern City and enviable town.” Okwuosa stressed.
