ANSG to assist Fire Service on safety awareness campaign

Anambra State Government has said it is ready to assist the Anambra State Fire Service in enlightening the public on fire safety measures.
Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Mr. C. Don Adinuba, stated this while receiving officers and men of state fire service that paid him a courtesy call at his office at the Jerome Udoji Secretariat, Awka.
According to him, all markets in the state must have access roads that are motorable, to allow easy access to fire fighting vans in and out of them during fire outbreaks.
The Commissioner said through enlightenment, the government would instill the habit of fire fighting in the people, using the tools of information dissemination to train the public.
The State Director Fire Service, Mr. Martin Agbili, said the team embarked on the visit, in order to solicit for a working synergy with the Information Ministry and disclosed their major challenge is late arrival at scene of fire disasters because of lateness in alerting the service by the public to respond in good time to disaster scenes.
He further said they need the Ministry’s pivotal role in information gathering and dissemination, so that the public can be enlightened on activities of fire service.
The Officer in-Charge of Operations in the Agency Mr. Akpagu Smart, re-assured that the service had started the training of volunteers to help in fighting preliminary fires.
The team presented the Commissioner with one kilogramme bottle of fire extinguisher for his personal use in case of fire outbreaks.
