Anambra Election 2025

Anambra poll: INEC inspects materials; police confirm ‘zero voters’ in two units

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has commenced the inspection of sensitive materials at the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) for Saturday’s governorship election in Anambra state.

Speaking with journalists after receiving the materials, Queen Agu, the state’s resident electoral commissioner (REC), reaffirmed INEC’s readiness for the election.

Agu said the materials will be “promptly distributed” to all LGAs to ensure seamless deployment.

Abayomi Shogunle, Anambra commissioner of police, said security and logistics are in place, noting that voting will occur in all but two of the state’s polling units.

“There will be voting in all the polling units in Anambra state come Saturday except two polling units, and this is as a result of zero registered voters.

“No person has registered to vote in those two polling units. Otherwise, the elections will go ahead in all locations as expected on Saturday,” Shogunle said.

Speaking further, the commissioner of police added that the distribution of materials is on schedule.

“By very early Saturday morning, all these electoral materials would arrive at the various polling stations across the state.

“Security has been put in place, on land and on the waterways as well as the air patrol,” he added.

Meanwhile, while addressing journalists in Abuja on Thursday, INEC chairman Joash Amupitan said 2,769,137 out of 2,802,790 registered voters in Anambra have collected their permanent voter cards (PVCs).

Amupitan said the figure represents an “impressive” 98.8 percent collection rate, describing the turnout as “a significant achievement for any election in Nigeria”.
