Anambra Police command warned against extortion

Nigeria Police have been warned against humiliation, molestation and indiscriminate extortion from commuters. The warning was made open during a stakeholders meeting in Awka, Anambra state.

Issuing the warning, Anambra state Commissioner of Police, Mr Garba Umar regretted that some police officers were operating contrary to the provisions of police service code, calling on individuals to report to appropriate authority, any police officer extorting from them.

C. P Umar represented by the Police Head of Administration, Mr Chris Owolabi explained that the police had earlier establish a section “Public Complaints and Anti Piracy Bureau ” where people should complain any ill behavior or extortion from the police, warning commuters to refrain from offering police bribe.

Umar ” I always sanction any officer that is found guilty of any action. In case you are molested or extorted call this lines for immediate attention, 08060970639 or 08166559820″.

“We urge you to equally provide relevant information that would assist the police in providing law and order and report immediate any suspicious activity or movement around you.” Umar said.

He however promised to continue safeguarding the lives and properties of the people to ensure a crime free state.

On his part, the Traditional Ruler of Onitsha and the Chairman Anambra State Traditional Rulers Council, Igwe Alfred Achebe regretted the attitude of some police officer at Ugwu nwasike , who extort money from commuters and thereby causing unnecessary traffic congestion.

Igwe Achebe called on the police commissioner to take immediately action and equally regulate the activities of police in the state, especially along the old Enugu Onitsha road.
