Buhari sacks Amnesty boss Boroh, replaces him with Dokubo
President Muhammadu Buhari has dismissed the Coordinator of the Presidential Amnesty Programme and Special Adviser on Niger Delta Gen. Paul Boroh (Rtd) and approved the appointment of Professor Charles Quaker Dokubo to replace him.
Dokubo is currently, a Director of Research and Studies at the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs. He holds a PhD in Strategic Studies from the University of Bradford, United Kingdom, and hails from Abonema, Akuku-Toru Local Government of Rivers State.
The Daily Times recalls that earlier in January and February 2018, more than 200 former militants from the Niger Delta region had stormed the National Assembly in protest of the nonpayment of their allowances.
They urged the federal legislature to put pressure on the executive through the Special Adviser to the President on Niger Delta and Coordinator of the Programme, retired Brig.-Gen. Paul Boroh to pay them.
”We are not here to disturb the peace but to call on the government to pay our allowances. We are suffering. The amnesty office owes us amnesty allowances running to millions of Naira. We want our money.”
The former militants had also called for the removal of Gen. Boro, who they described as the “stumbling block” in respect to the payment of their allowances.
Meanwhile, the President directs the National Security Adviser (NSA) to carry out a full investigation into the activities of the Amnesty Programme from 2015 to date, especially allegations of financial impropriety and other acts that are allegedly detrimental to the objectives of the Presidential Amnesty Programme.
